Sausalito, Calif. – Aug. 10, 2024

IndustryWeek reports that the manufacturing sector’s low tolerance for downtime has historically made it an attractive target for cybercriminals seeking to apply pressure for financial gains.

For the third year in a row, the IBM X-Force Threat Intelligence Report ranked manufacturing as the most-attacked industry by cybercriminals. In 2023, manufacturers comprised more than 25 percent of security incidents, with malware attacks — primarily ransomware — making up the majority of those incidents.

Michael Belton, founder and CISO at 23P, an offensive security and training firm in Madison, Wis., recently came on the Cybercrime Magazine Podcast to discuss what can be done to help protect the manufacturing sector from cyberattacks. Belton has more than 25 years of industry experience and was previously VP of R&D at Optiv, and manager, global penetration testing services, at Rapid7.
